  A Historical Perspective

In 1919, George T. Schulte and his brother, Jack, began producing top quality brass plumbing parts and accessories in George’s garage in Cincinnati, Ohio. Each part was molded and finished by hand, then packaged and shipped to plumbers from their shipping department, which just happened to be the sidewalk in front of the garage.

During the Depression the Company, now known as Schulte Brass, turned its focus to one of the very first lines of chrome and brass bathroom fixtures. By the mid-1930s Schulte Brass was becoming expert in metal castings and copper, nickel, and chrome plating. This fueled the need for expansion and the operation moved into a newly built facility in Norwood, Ohio. Fate stepped in with the start of World War II. Metals used to manufacture bathroom accessories were allocated to the war effort, so Schulte Brass converted its factory to manufacture small parts for local defense plants.

At the conclusion of the war, Schulte Brass returned to manufacturing bathroom accessories and faucets. By 1958 they outgrew their Norwood location and built a new manufacturing facility in Cincinnati. The 1970s brought about a whole new metal finishing process – epoxy powder coating. SCHULTE began producing epoxy coated Ventilated wire shelving. The continuing popularity of powder coated shelving and accessories resulted in a third location being built in Bloomington, Indiana in 1986 to produce SCHULTE’s new Stor-Drawer Basket Systems and Accessories.

By 1995, SCHULTE not only produced Ventilated Storage Systems, Accessories, and Stor-Drawer Basket Systems, but also Specialty Storage Systems (uprights and brackets). And that year, with the purchase of Tru-Space, a leader in the manufacturing of wood laminate storage systems, SCHULTE added Classica to its Full Family offering of storage products.

Recognizing the opportunity to improve storage solutions in all areas of the home, in 1999 SCHULTE introduced Activity Organizers, a collection of garage storage components. The product line includes cabinets, grids, and accessories that respond to the rigorous demands of garage storage.

After years of research and development, the freedomRail line of adjustable storage was introduced in 2001. freedomRail is a collection of home storage components that provides all the benefits of a custom closet while being easy to install, adjust, and upgrade. Many additions to the freedomRail product line in 2002 and 2003 make it an ideal storage solution throughout the home – closets, pantries, garages.
